Conjury >> Game Review

Cards, pixel graphics & tons of replayability

This was a surprising game, whilst at first look it seemed to be a rather uninspiring ‘just another deck builder’ type game this proved to, in fact, be very wrong. Conjury (also on Android on Google Play Store as well as Free on itch.io) has a lot of depth, a lot of gameplay and is excellent value for money (even more so if you play the free itch.io version). If you like games like Slay the Spire or Roguebook or other roguelike deck builder/card games and you haven’t tried Conjury then, in my opinion, it is definitely worth the time.

As with many similar games of the genre, you play a round of cards to defeat enemies, earning coins to buy upgrades, and then choose your path toward the next battle. In between each battle your choice is either a shop, a weapon upgrade or an event and the decisions you make will greatly influence your chances of winning or losing. There is a lot on offer and along with multiple characters to unlock with different abilities, there are varying difficulty levels to unlock as well, meaning that if you are someone that likes to finish a game from start to end (completionist) then you have plenty to do.

Whilst the graphics are definitely not the greatest, the gameplay is addictive and working out the various tactics to make it to the end is a lot of fun. Difficult one to estimate in terms of hours of gameplay. It took me about 14 hours to complete all difficulty levels playing with only 1 of the characters. Following this, there are quite a few more characters (6 in total I think) with which you can once again play through and these characters all have different abilities that alter the gameplay mechanic to keep you entertained.

If you like card games, deck builders, roguelikes and games where you can stop for a few minutes and walk around without having to worry if your character is going to be killed as soon as you get up out of your chair then Conjury is definitely recommended and excellent value for money.

  • Many hours of gameplay at a low price
  • Requires thinking & strategising
  • Gameplay is quite relaxed & you can pause for a bit
  • Multiple characters & difficulty levels
  • Low hardware requirements - should run on most PCs
  • Graphic are not wonderful
  • Might be too challenging on harder levels
  • Not much else really - it is quite good
